Experience

Libby has over a decade of experience in leading award-winning economic empowerment programs at two major nonprofits in Detroit.
Services her teams have provided include:
• Financial coaching
• Pre-purchase counseling
• Foreclosure intervention
• Property tax assistance
• VITA tax preparation services
• Access to down payment assistance
• Access to matched savings and credit building financial products
Libby has integrated this work into other nonprofit services including workforce development, entrepreneurship programs, adult education, Head Start programming and more.

Libby started her nonprofit career as an AmeriCorps VISTA at Southwest Solutions (SWS) in 2009. During her tenure at SWS, she developed the homeownership and financial coaching team to become a recognized leader in the field, receiving multiple awards including the Michigan State Housing Development Authority’s Housing Counseling Agency of the Year award in 2014 and the Champion for Working Families award at the Detroit Community Development Awards in 2015. In 2017, Libby was awarded the Crain’s 40 Under 40 Leadership Award for her work creating affordable homeownership opportunities in Detroit. This work accounted for 10% of all home mortgages in the city that year.

In 2019, Libby started working at Wayne Metropolitan Community Action Agency (WM), leading a team of 30+ staff providing homeownership counseling, financial coaching and free tax preparation services. She reorganized the agency’s Center for Working Families program, which had been lagging in expected outcomes, to exceed outcomes in every service-delivery metric. Libby established a partnership with Wayne State University to provide free financial coaching to college students. Libby also helped WM to become one of Detroit’s first six agencies in the Detroit Housing Network.

Libby received her undergraduate degree in Communications and Spanish from Michigan State University and her Master’s in Urban Planning from Wayne State University, with a focus on economic development.

Libby also plays the bass guitar and composes music for the band
Zosette & the Groove.
